Minnesota Vacation Photos
These are various photos from trips to Minnesota.

Lake Harriet, Minneapolis, July, 2001
I took this on our walk around Lake Harriet. The fisherman in the foreground I think actually caught something while we were watching. The buildings in the background are Downtown Minneapolis. There is usally a lot of sailboats out, but the wind was a little calm. This is a nice walk (2.75 miles) around the lake. There is also the Rose Garden to see. If you want to see more photos of Minnesota go to the Phototour of Minneapolis website.
Madden's on Gull Lake, Brainerd, July 2001
This is the Madden's Lodge where we eat breakfast and dinner while we stay there. This is also where the closest beach is that the kids play at. The main attraction is golf, but there are other activities available.
Aerial Lift Bridge, Duluth, July 2001
This is a photo of the ship canal with a large ship on its way out into Lake Superior. The Duluth Shipping News puts out a daily paper that lists the arrival and departure times of ships which is handy to plan when to see one. It is fascinating to watch these huge ships go by. The S.S. William A. Irvin Ore Boat Museum is nearby and is an interesting tour to take. You can also take a cruise with the Vista Fleet Sightseeing & Dining Cruises. We did it years ago and it was fun.
Canal Park Boardwalk, Duluth, July 2001
This is a photo of the Lakewalk with a large ship going thru the canal. The boardwalk starts at the ship canal and goes all the way past downtown. Some of it was damaged last November from waves during a large storm.

Split Rock Lighthouse, Two Harbors
This is a view of the Lighthouse taken from a pullout just south of it. It is an interesting place to visit. The last time we were there we were able to go up into the lighthouse. They don't normally do that, but there wasn't many people there that day. I can't imagine living there when they built it and there were no roads. The only access to the lighthouse was by boat.
Shovel Point, Tettegouche State Park
I took this photo from the top of Palisade Head, which is not an easy place to find. All of us hiked out the the end of the point and fought the flies. There were people climbing on the cliffs while we were there, we stopped and watched them for a while. We have also hiked along the Baptism River up to the Cascades and High Falls. There are State Parks at most of the major rivers as they empty into Lake Superior. They have very interesting falls and formations that have been carved through the stone.
Temperance River State Park
This is a view of the walking bridge over the gorge just above Hidden Falls. The trail up along the river is not difficult and is a beautiful hike.
Temperance River State Park
This is a view from the mouth of the river with a walking bridge and the Highway 61 bridge in the background.

Cabela's, Owattona
We stopped here on our way back home. It was fascinating to see the animal displays they had in there. It is amazing some of the positions that these animals are in. To get them to look so lifelike and in action is incredible.

Cabela's, Owattona
This Lion looked so lifelike. I thought that any moment he was going to get up and walk.
