Other vacations: Grand Canyon, Yellowstone
I am planning on putting photos of other vactions we have taken around the country. Check back and see if I have had time to put them here. These are all the default images that come with the page.

Carlsbad Caverns, Carslbad, New Mexico
Because of the weather we ended up going to Carlsbad Caverns at the beginning of our trip to Arizona. This is a photo of the bottomless pit, which isn't quite bottomless. Everyone enjoyed the walk and eating lunch underground. I was disappointed that we couldn't wait around for the bats to leave the cave. It was mating season and they didn't want anyone to disturb them. We left there and drove into Texas and had a picnic dinner in the Guadaloupe Mountains National Park at an overlook with a view of El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak.

White Sands National Monument
Earlier in the day we stopped at the National Solar Observatory on Sacremento Peak, Sunspot, New Mexico. It was very interesting and a nice place to stop at. We then drove on to White Sands National Monument and played in the sand for a while. It looked like it was going to rain, but never did. Stacey & Stephanie had a blast.
Saguaro National Park
When we first arrived at Tuscon we stopped at the Saguaro National Park and walked around. We kept a look out for snakes which we wanted to see, but really didn't want to see. We caught a quick glimpse of one as it disappeared under a cactus. We also visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum which was very interesting. Lots of wildlife and beautiful plants and flowers. We ate lunch in their resturant which was pretty good.
Salt River Canyon
We stopped in Scottsdale and spent a couple of days with Michele. Then we went up to Show Low and stayed with Mom and Joe for a few days. While we were there Mom went with us on a driving trip to Salt River Canyon and the Mogollon Rim.
Slide Rocks State Park, Secona, Arizona
After we left Mom's we drove past Sedona and up Oak Creek Canyon. We stopped at Slide Rocks State Park and let the kids play and walked around for a while. We then left there and headed north towards the Grand Canyon.
Grand Canyon National Park
We spent a few days wandering up and down the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Diane and Stephanie look like they are sitting on the edge of the world. The weather was pretty good and we had a great time.
Lincoln Memorial
This bust of Lincoln on top of a 30-foot stone tower is at a rest stop on I-80 east of Laramie. It "commemerates the Sesquicentennial of the Birth of Lincoln by the State of Wyoming in 1959", so the plaque says. We detoured off I-80 at Cheyenne and the road we were on came back to I-80 at this point. We took I-80 towards Laramie and left it to drive thru Medicine Bow National Forest. At Lake Marie we stopped and walked around for a while. We ate Dinner at a really nice Mexican resturant in Saratoga and happened upon a concert by Annie & Amy Smith. They were pretty good. We spent the night nearby and then drove up to Grand Tetons.
Grand Teton National Park
We spent a few days driving around and sightseeing at Grand Teton National Park. This is a view of Jackson Hole from the top of the gondola at Teton Village. It was cold up there but the view was great. You could smell the fires every now and then, but they were mostly on the other side of Jackson Lake where there were not any roads. After enjoying the sights we headed North to Yellowstone.
Yellowstone National Park
There are so many photo possibilites in Yellowstone National Park it is hard to decide which ones to put here. This picture of an Elk shows how the animals are used to people and don't run away. You can also see all the dead trees from the 1988 fire in the background. It was cloudy and raining at Old Faithful so my pictures didn't look to good. Check the webcam for a current view.
Yellowstone National Park
We spent a few nights in a cabin at Old Faithful and drove everywhere to sightsee. We went Horseback riding at Mammoth Springs which was fun. This is a photo of one of the pools on the Firehole Lake Drive. We says lots of animals except we never got to see a Male Moose. I can't believe what I saw some people doing to get photos of Bison.

Devils Tower National Monument
This was taken from the parking lot at the visitors center. I was glad to be able to get the flag in the picture. The walk around the tower was fun and interesting.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial
This entrance was all new since the last time I was there. It's pretty impressive to see and the walking trail in front of the faces is something that you should do when you go there.
